“… a reminder that every minute an African woman dies in labor or suffers lifetime complications from pregnancy and delivery”
~ H.E. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
THE CHALLENGES
African women bear an unacceptably huge burden of disease and death. The scarcity of resources has led to the provision of low-quality skilled care for women during pregnancy, childbirth and the post-partum period.
Majority of modern health care services provided are also clinic based, physician-oriented and urban-centered. This leaves the predominant rural population woefully under-served.
iLeap International adopts a life course approach to women’s health to reveal the specific challenges faced by African women at four (4) different stages of their lives.
- Infancy & Childhood
- Adolescent Girl
- Adult Woman in the Reproductive Years
- Woman Beyond the Reproductive Years
